- RESCUE & EMERGENCY
SERVICES

Great
Cats of Indiana functions as a rescue and placement facility for large
cats and other carnivores that are displaced due to neglect, abandonment,
abuse or legal matters. We provide emergency housing, placement, adoption,
capture, re-capture and transportation services. We also have holding and
quarantine facilities available as needed to provide safe, secure housing,
and care to prevent the needless killing or injuring of these animals.
Our facilities are utilized by local, state and federal law enforcement
and animal control agencies from across the country. We are also called
upon by private organizations, and even individual owners when
emergencies arise. We have personnel with advanced animal capture and
restraint training, as well as capture and transport equipment available
should the need arise. Our capture and recovery team is available 24 hours a day, every day for rescues,
captures or emergency consultations.

TO CONTACT US IN AN
EMERGENCY
In
the event of an emergency involving a big cat or other large carnivore, call
us at: (574) 943-3412. We usually have someone to answer our phone 24
hours a day. Should you not get an answer, be sure to leave a message.
Someone is ALWAYS on our property, we just may be in the barn, or with a cat
and couldn't get to the phone. Our normal business hours are
from 10:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. E.S.T. Please
email us for general information
or questions outside of our normal business hours.
There are a few things we
get regular calls about that fall outside the realm of our ability or
responsibility, and that we cannot help you with.
-
Please don't call us if
you are concerned about someone else's cat or facility, contact the
regulatory agency for your area instead.
-
Please don't call us asking to
buy a cat, or asking how to get a "pet" cat. We don't support pet ownership
of exotic cats and won't sell any of our cats. Any cats that do leave
here go only to approved, licensed facilities.
-
Please don't call us asking us to come catch
a "wild" big cat that is running around your neighborhood, or if you
have a cat that is loose. We are available to assist with this
type of situation, but you need to contact your local Department
of Natural Resources or Conservation officer. Due to the equipment
used and land access needed for these situations, we can only
assist if we are asked to respond by a law enforcement agency.
